Here's how this will work. Everyone fill out this simple form:

Who are you:
Where are you from:
Why are you a fan:
What made you a fan:
When did you become a fan:
Which period is your favourite:

Let me begin:

Who
Brad, 19

Where
Tawa, Wellington

Why
Shane emailed me with the link. Tadaa.

What
My first single that I ever bought when I was a kid was "American Pie" (her one). And my mum said "Oh I think I have one of her albums" and dug up a CD, so for about a year my soundtrack of my life was "Like a Virgin". I forgot about her over time (Madonna, not my mum) but rediscovered her music with her performance at the Grammy Awards 2006, which was actually broadcast on TV3 News one night on Nightline 11pm.

When
American Pie (2000), then a serious fan in early 2006.

Which
Subject to frequent change, but at the moment definitely "Ray of Light". I also love "Secret Garden" from Erotica.

Who are you: Genie, 30-something

Where are you from: Evans Bay, Wellington

Why are you a fan: I had no choice, it just happened. The music, the clothes, the attitude. I'm such a wannabe!

What made you a fan: Seeing Like a Virgin on TV when I was around 5. I remember thinking I wanted to be just like her with her awesome bright clothes and makeup. The song was so catchy- I didnt even know what a virgin was! Then I went to camp and someone had the Like a Virgin tape and cassette player. I was allowed to hold it for an hour and oh my god, I learnt every song on that tape in that hour. I loved the pic of her on the cover. Later on, I remember hearing Open Your Heart on the radio, and I just KNEW it was her. I could always pick out her voice and songs. I then nicked my sisters walkman and True Blue tape and ran her batteries flat listening to it. I got such a walloping but it was worth it.

When did you become a fan: About 5 yrs old. I don't feel like I chose to be a fan. It just happened. My family teased me and still do tease me incessantly about it lol

Which period is your favourite: Like a Virgin. I reckon its her ultimate phase. But I also adore True Blue and am currently in full Like a Prayer mode. Dyed my hair dark, feeling very bohemian. Least favourite is Erotica/Bedtime Stories.

I think that is so awesome Brad, I remember the first time listening to Like a Virgin too, and the experience of hearing that album for the first time is unforgettable. I get so chuffed when I hear someone else has listened to that album for the first time and loved it.

Like a Virgin, touched for the very first time!

My favourite tracks were "Angel" and "Stay". The title track had no appeal for me, and I liked "Material Girl" for that ... jeez, what is it called? That baaa-buuuuuum...ba-ba-ba-bum, thingy. I thought that was funky. Hehe.

Angel and Stay have to be my favourite tracks too, as well as Dress You Up.

Check out this guy's version of Stay (be warned, sounds like Groundskeeper Willie in need of prozac) but once you get past the accent, its actually a beautiful arrangement. The strings especially are so mournful and longing.
