Well in my humble opinion, its about bloody time!!! Drop the dry balls and become a raving lesbian. LOL
I really think hes become such a handbreak for her and such a bore. Sitting in a skoddy pub in england sipping on a warm ale....dosent sount very Madge to me. Hes not supported her ideas on touring, adoption, or even the way she "portraits" herself at "her age" in her concerts. I think good on her making a stand, and I cant wait to be able to see it all come out after the tour. Im sure with the kids back in school and after the tour it will all be divulged. It will be very interesting me thinks. Shocked

Wow, for real?? Not a rumour?

If its true, I hope the kids get through this okay.

Maybe now, all our fantasies of her and Sean growing old together will come true!

Bye bye Guy, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Razz

Well, yes, this is only the mainstream media reporting this, from a story in the UK tabloid The Sun. I heard that the decision was mutual, nothing about Madonna "taking a stand." I think the children are the main priority here, but they've been reported as arguing too much lately & can't save the marriage, besides, will tie in nicely with release of Miles Away. Might make it a big hit....

PostSubject: Will Guy Ritchie claim his share of Madonna's fortune?   Madge on TV3 GETTING DIVORCED!!!! I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 15, 2008 10:18 pm

Oooh, officially TRUE now, apparently, her publicist has confirmed the news....

Latest news from The London Times....

Will Guy Ritchie claim his share of Madonna's fortune?
The star's penchant for keeping fit showed she was unfit for marriage
It would be wrong to jeer, especially when there are children involved. But the news of Madonna's divorce from Guy Ritchie will cheer up a great many people in these dark, pinched times.

It's not that any celebrity marriage deserves to fail. It's just that the dissolution of a marriage in which Madonna is a partner is a cheering reminder that there are limits to the lengths to which naked ambition, iron control, ruthless self-aggrandisement, a penchant for kabbalah and the pursuit of the body beautiful can get you. An awful lot of young women used to model themselves on Madonna. Older now, they may do so just that little bit less now it seems that her trademark habits are precisely what may have put off her put-upon husband. It seems the worm that was Mr Guy Ritchie turned when he found that Madonna intended to defer the announcement of their divorce for a time convenient for her US tour.

The best bit of the reports was the revelation that Ritchie had had it up to here with his wife's four-hour-a-day gym habit. Four hours.

Male readers may not know this, but women have been told for an awfully long time about Madge's fitness routine. Celebrity trainers and workout routines were routinely peddled to a gullible female public on the strength of her imprimatur. Some of it was, of course, intended to keep her fit for her gruelling stage tours. But in so far as it was intended to make her physically attractive at home, it backfired. Ritchie, who sounds like a sane sort of person, was repelled, not attracted by that degree of obsession. It produced a toned physique - and it's hard to look at the woman's biceps without feeling that batwing arms are preferable - but at a price.

As a “close friend” of the couple told one paper: “Madonna is obsessed with trying to look years younger than her real age.” So it wasn't the age difference between the couple that was the problem - she is ten years his senior - but her angst-ridden efforts to disguise her age. The valuable lesson of all this for other women is that what magazines tell you men like, and what men actually like, are two different things.

The real interest of the break-up, though, is whether Ritchie will claim the share of his wife's fortune to which he is legally entitled. Alimony is one thing when the beneficiary is the wife of a rich man, quite another if the claimant is a man. But Ritchie can claim to have subordinated his career to his wife's and helped to raise their child. If he wins custody of their son and an equal share of her assets, it would do more to advance the principles of equality than his wife's entire career.

Have your say

"But Ritchie can claim to have subordinated his career to his wife's and helped to raise their child."
... but there's tangible evidence out there not only of him working throughout his children's early years, but of him really not deserving the money he did earn. Can't say that of most exes.

Victoria, Lancaster,

Do you people have no respect for the fact that it doesn't matter who you are, you are still a person. Madonna and indeed Guy Ritchie are such and so to "cheer" is just disgusting. Shame on you!!

Madonna and Ritchie: Our marriage is over

MADONNA and her film-maker husband, Guy Ritchie, yesterday announced plans to divorce after nearly eight years of marriage.
The couple made the announcement in a joint statement released by Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg.

Ms Rosenberg said the couple had asked the media to "maintain respect for their family at this difficult time".

She added that relations between Madonna and Ritchie remained cordial, and they expected to agree a settlement without going to court.

The announcement comes after months of speculation regarding their rocky marriage.

It had been reported that Madonna, 50, had wanted to wait until the end of her latest world tour before announcing the split.

Earlier yesterday, Madonna's spokeswoman, Barbara Charone, had declined to comment on reports that their relationship was over, but Ritchie's family had refused to quash the rumours.

The superstar couple's marriage looked finished in the summer when Madonna was spotted with New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez, and was cited as one of the reasons for the break-up of his marriage.

Weeks ago, Madonna and Ritchie appeared in a very public show of affection, at the premiere of his latest film, RocknRolla in Leicester Square.

The couple were married in December 2000 at Skibo Castle. The minister who married them yesterday said she was "very sad" to hear they planned to split.

Rev Susan Brown, who conducted the lavish ceremony and christened the couple's son Rocco, said: "It would be very upsetting if they divorced. I have fond memories of their marriage. It was a huge event.

"It is upsetting for anybody going through a divorce, especially couples with kids."

They have two children, Rocco, eight, and David Banda, three, whom they adopted from Malawi in 2006. Madonna also has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a previous relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon.

The couple are reportedly worth about £300 million.

Mockney dream went sour for the Material Girl

SHE got the country manor, London postcode and the "mockney" husband. He got A-list status, international fame and a superstar guarantee that his film premieres received maximum attention.

But now, after almost eight years of marriage, Madonna, 50, and Guy Ritchie, 40, have decided to call it quits.

Yesterday, the couple confirmed that they were seeking a divorce.

After meeting Ritchie in 1999 through their mutual friend Sting, Madonna embraced British life.

The pair were often spotted in London pubs and Madonna became a huge fan of British style, fashion and cockney rhyming slang.

Having been catapulted into the spotlight with the success of his 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Ritchie was on a high.

In 2000, he followed it up with the hit Snatch, starring Brad Pitt, and married Madonna at Skibo Castle in the Highlands. Guests included Gwyneth Paltrow, Rupert Everett and fashion designer Stella McCartney. The pair later bought a £12 million country estate in Wiltshire. But the cracks had started to appear.

Her husband wasn't used to the limelight his wife commanded. He was a middle-class English lad, ten years the junior of his high-flying bride who was an international pop sensation when he was still in his teens.

In 2005, Madonna revealed that she had thought about divorce, but instead the couple adopted their second child, David Banda, from Malawi. Meanwhile, Ritchie's career was stalling. with his wife's global popularity spiralling upwards as she signed a new record deal and performed to worldwide audiences.

Even Madonna's love of Britain was replaced by her new enthusiasm for Kabbalah and, as the pair went for marriage guidance counselling, it was clear the relationship was failing.

The pair were constantly apart.

Even yesterday, as the rumours intensified, Madonna was in Boston on a world tour while her husband was filming in France.

Mo Kurimbokus, a counsellor for Relate, said: "They didn't get the quality time needed to sustain the relationship. They may have become more like strangers and if you don't see each other, you can't sustain a relationship. You can have all the money and success in the world but if you don't talk to each other, your relationship will break down."

The couple's wealth has been put at an estimated £300 million, but the vast majority is thought to stem from the singer's 25-year career.

Divorce lawyer Andrew Newbury, of Manchester-based law firm Pannone, said: "If Guy Ritchie were to instigate proceedings in Britain then recent precedents mean Madonna would be facing the potential of a much larger settlement than if she lived in California."

Madonna And Guy: Who Gets Custody of the Ego?

Sometimes I wonder if I am a music critic or a gossip columnist. Maybe, it's the same thing in this fractured day and age, when the stars are our community, and exchanging salacious emails the equivalent of nattering over the garden fence.

Younger man leaves older woman: Madonna and Guy

I log on to check out the music news every day but generally it reads more like a copy of Heat magazine than the New Musical Express. And so to today's top stories: Britney's ‘Womanizer' video records seven million hits in 48 hours ( "Men Ogle Semi Clad Babe Shock"); Sugababes claim Tom Jones snubbed them at Q Awards ("Older Man Declines To Ogle Semi Clad Babes Shock") and, the big one, Madonna and Guy Richie To Divorce ("Younger Man Leaves Semi Clad Older Woman Shock").

Like the rest of the world, I have been fascinated by the Madge and Guy show. Well, Madonna is hard to avoid, and obsessing over the minutiae of her private life sure beats listening to her music. And, strangely, I rather like Guy, although all I really know about him are his films (contrary to reviews, Rock-N-Rolla is really quite entertaining. I wonder why movie critics give him such a hard time for sticking to his familiar shaggy dog Brit gangster milieu, when he is really rather good at it. Alfred Hitchcock and John Ford often made the same essential movie over and over again, and were declared geniuses for it. To date, Guy has made all of three Brit gangster films).

In the odd clips I have seen of Guy in the endless navel-gazing documentaries Madonna makes about her favourite subject, herself (she having added film-maker to her many stringed bow), he comes across as a bluff and amusing fellow, who is generally the only person within camera-shot not taking Madonna seriously. This is dangerous stuff, of course, since exposure to Madonna's oeuvre reveals that she is a woman who takes herself extremely seriously indeed. At least she does for the time she is focused on whatever is the latest mistake she is making, whether its declaring herself an erotic politician and posing for pornographic photos, writing books for children (not featuring aforementioned photos, one hopes), embracing mystical Jewish cults while continuing to call herself a Christian, posing as a grouse shooting English lady of the manor, adopting children for her nanny to raise, or indeed telling us how to raise our children (clue: she doesn't let them watch television. Presumably in case they see her on it, and she has to explain why she is writhing about semi naked in a video with a man - or woman - half her age).

In one of her documentaries (I think it was entitled ‘I'm Going To Tell You A Secret', in which she shared her most intimate and private thoughts with her cameraman and the viewers of MTV) she declared straightfaced to camera: "It's not easy having a good marriage but I don't want it easy. I thank God every day that I married a man who made me think. That's my definition of true love. Your soulmate is the person that pushes all your buttons. Pisses you off on a regular basis and makes you face your shit."

Thanks for those words of wisdom Madge. But having faced your shit, the next step is presumably to call for a lawyer to help you clean the shit up.

And where does God come into that?

And yet, there is a sensitive, caring side to Madonna, as all those songs about Guy reveal. Who can forget her album ‘American Life', written in the first dizzy days of love, when she penned the immortal lyrics:

I always wished that I could find
Someone as beautiful as you
But in the process I forgot
That I was special too

And the especially touching coda:

I always wished that I could find
Someone as talented as you
But in the process I forgot
That I was just as good as you

Hmm, I suspect Madonna won't find it so hard to get over this, now that she can be reunited with her one true love: herself.

I actually usually love divorce albums as a genre - Dylan's ‘Blood On The Tracks', Elvis Costello's ‘Blood And Chocolate'. I'm not sure Madonna's is going to be up there in the self laceration stakes. It will probably be called 'Blood On The Dancefloor'. She's gonna work that man out with a high sweat.

I'm sure Michael Jackson would throw his toys out of the cot if she did.

Awww, how sad. But at the same time: hurrah!! Her sadness albums have always been her best work: Like a Prayer, Erotica, Ray of Light... This next one is gonna be killer!!
